Toughest? No. It’s scariest.
No, no. I am not making you scared.
Some people will say it’s GATE, UPSC, etc etc.
Mais sont-ils vraiment?
Nursery student finds his exam tough while we think it as an ant. Isn’t it?After giving 12th exams, when you start to prepare for better difficult exams, you realize how easy 12th was. Am I right? Exams can be given with better practice and understanding. Difficulty level of exams depends on one’s strength and knowledge.
For ex: A student topped NEET with 697 but some even failed to pass. Why? Fail students found NEET difficult but the topper at same time found it easy.
So, you got my point now?
But, now if I talk about life. It’s the most difficult exam and is the last exam too. Right? Ya. Ya. I know we learn with time but it still throws a wide range of problems with much high level of difficulty level.
Rather than getting worried about my off topic answer, just make your life better either by studying hard to give “difficult exams” or by living your life with small happiness.
( Off topic. Peace. )

Well, in that case i would say LA VIE i.e. EXAMINATION OF LIFE !
This examination is far more tougher than any other in this thread. All other academic and aptitude testing exams like IIT-JEE, Gaokao, GATE, GRE, IES, CMAT, SAT and CA etc can be treated as it’s part.
It’s the toughest open examination that everyone must go through. This began in our early childhood and we’re facing different terminal examinations of life in succession.
We entered the classroom so called “world” where each and every step we take determines what the next milestone will look like.
- Naissance (This is entrance examination to exam hall i.e. universe. Only lucky one will get pass this opportunity.)
- Enfance (Whatever you do in this first term exam will affect your future)
- Adolescence (Another interesting part of life examination in which you're growing up but don't know if you're grown-up. How you turn as an adult depends on this part of life examination.)
- Adulte (Even tougher than previous one. In most of the cases, this term will determine your name, fame, health and wealth etc. )
- Vieillesse (Final term after which the examination won’t bother you. If did well in all previous terms, this term won’t create tougher deal to leave this classroom peacefully)
Some try to cheat. They remain unknown about the fact that they are examinee as well as examiner themselves.
To secure good grades(Identify Life Value),
- You need to be humble, honest and know yourself. If you fail to do so you won’t understand the meaning of life.
- You need to be able to understand importance of time and act in time.
- At the end, what you left behind is all the good deeds that you have presented to this universe.
PS: Sorry for going with sort of ticklish answer you might have unexpected.
Merci pour la lecture.
Edit #1: I’ve added adolescent stage to my answer. Thanks for suggestion Sandeept Dhakal.
- Adolescence (Another interesting part of life examination in which you're growing up but don't know if you're grown-up. How you turn as an adult depends on this part of life examination.)

En Inde civil service examination is toughest

Everything is taken from the internet,

15. IES (Indian Engineering Services)
This is a four-stage, combined competitive exam held in India, conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). The four stages comprise of a General Aptitude Test, an Objective Technical paper, Conventional Technical paper, and an Interview. The number of engineers has also seen a huge bump, as a total vacancy of 434 in 2010 has increased to 763 vacancies in 2013. This is one of the most sought after exams to be cleared, as the jobs offered are extremely lucrative.
14. GRE (Graduate Record Exams)
This is a standardised exam held by the ETS (Educational Testing Services) since 1949, and is required to be cleared for admission in many different universities in the US. The exam aims to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study. The ETS significantly overhauled the exam process in 2011, splitting the exam into sections which gauge the performance of applicants in the first round of verbal and math skill, and present the second section accordingly. It retained most of the characteristics of its predecessor. They also changed the scoring scale from 130 to 170. This is one of the major exams for many graduate students across the world.
13. USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination)
The USMLE is a multi-part examination held in the United States. This examination grants a Physician with an M.D. to practice medicine in the country. It is conducted by the FSMB (Federation of State Medical Boards) and the NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners). It is a very prestigious exam, with the average score of entrants being 22.3/42 in the exam conducted in 2014/15. Speaks for itself, doesn’t it?
11. CCIE (Cisco Certified Inter-networking Expert)
The CCIE is a certification offered by Cisco to network engineers based on their ability to plan, operate and troubleshoot complex, converged network infrastructures on a wide variety of Cisco equipment. Though it is a technical certificate, this is one of the toughest exams to pass. Cisco claims less than 3% of their own engineers and less than 1% of the network engineers worldwide receive this certification. The process to obtain this certificate is costly and time consuming. An engineer obtains this certificate upon passing a written qualification test, followed by a hands=on lab exam. All in all, this is an expensive exam which tests the limits of the knowledge of network engineer. Sounds fun,
10. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)
The GATE exam is held all over India, which is required to be passed for admission in an ME or M.Tech in various premier colleges in India. It is jointly conducted by seven IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IIS (Indian Institute of Sciences). The examination is extremely tough, a fact which is evident as the PSU (Publis Sector Undertaking) use an applicants GATE score to shortlist the number of entrants. Out of 8,04,463 people who took the exam, only 1,21,060 got through (15.05% of the total applicants). Undoubtedly, this is one of the toughest exams all over the world.
9. GAOKAO or NCEE (National College Entrance Exam) (Thanks Rishabh Srivastava for editing the right statistics)
The NCEE is an annual academic examination held in China. This exam is the sole obstacle between a student and most of the colleges at the undergraduate level. Since 2001, age restrictions to take this exam has been lifted. Most students, however, take the exam during the last year of their high school. The process varies across the different provinces in China. In 2006, a record high of 9.5 million people applied for tertiary education entry in China. Of these, 8.8 million (93%) are scheduled to take the national entrance exam and 27,600 (0.28%) have been exempted from standardized exams (保送) due to exceptional or special talent. Everyone else (700,000 students) will take other standardized entrance exams, such as those designed for adult education students.
8. California Bar Exam
California conducts what is considered the United States’ most difficult bar examination, the California Bar Exam, twice a year (in February and July). The net time of the exam is eighteen hours, spread over three days. The first day has three essay questions in the morning, and a performance test in the afternoon. The second day has applicants answering 100 Multi-state Bar Questions in the morning and afternoon each. The third day follows suit with the first one. This exam has the lowest success rate of any exam held in the US, with a success rate varying between 35-55%. This is enough to grasp the difficulty of this exam.
Mensa is the largest and the oldest high IQ society in the world. The members of this society are the people who score 98th percentile (or higher) on a standardized, supervised IQ or other approved intelligence test, such as the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales. Most IQ tests are designed to have an average score of 100, with a standard deviation of 15. According to these digits, the requirement to be a member of this organisation is a 130 on the tests. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
6. CA-Chartered Accountancy Exam
The CA exam is a three-level exam conducted in India by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India). The first level is the CPT (Common Proficiency Test). CPT covers four basic subjects, ie, Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Laws, Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. The second level is the IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course). The IPCC has a total of seven subjects which it encompasses, split into groups of four and three. The final exam, unceremoniously called the CA Final Examination, is where all the blood, sweat and tears merge to give forth one of the toughest exam in the world. The success rate of this exam varies from 8-16%
5. JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)
This is an all-India engineering entrance exam which was conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (2015) in 2015. It is split into two separate exams, which are further divided into two tests. The first level of the exam is the JEE Mains, which encompasses the NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and the IIEST, Shibpur, for its dual degree program. The second tier of the exam is the JEE Advanced. Only the short listed applicants from JEE Mains are allowed to write this exam. The Advanced is required to pass to gain a seat in any one of the IITs and the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. 13.03 lakh people appeared for the examination in 2015, out of which only the top 1.5 lakh were eligible to give the Advanced exam. This is difficult to clear for the sheer number of applicants and the quota system which is in effect.
4. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission)
The fifth entry from this nation, the UPSC is the body responsible for conducting various exams across India for many government jobs. The exams are typically held in a tier fashion; the first tier being an objective style exam, the second, a subjective one. The final round is the interview. The success rates of these exams are a flimsy 0.1-0.3%, which earns it a spot on this list.
3. CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Exam
The CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) is a professional credential offered internationally by the American-based CFA Institute. A candidate who successfully completes the program and meets other professional requirements is awarded the “CFA charter” and becomes a “CFA charterholder”. That’s cruel, even by Satan’s standard.
2. All Souls Prize Fellowship Exam
The All Souls Prize Fellowship Exam is conducted by the Oxford University in London. Clearing this exam is necessary to gain a Fellowship in the university. This is widely regarded as being extremely tough due to its vague questions, as essay questions with the topic being a single word was given up until 2010. Each year, only two or less people are granted a Fellowship, making this a shoo in for second place.
1. Master Sommelier Diploma Exam
Till now, this is the toughest exam in the world as per several surveys and researches being made. 40 years ago this exam was first taken in UK and since then only 200 candidates have been selected on the basis of this exam. The authorities select candidates on an unknown basis, which renders people with no tricks upon actually giving the exam. On an average every candidate takes 5-6 attempts of the exam before clearing. The exam is divided into 3 sections: theory, service and blind tasting. The students clear the first two rounds, but fall short in the third round. This is in part due to the questions asked in the round, rumoured to include telling the year and variety of a grape by blind tasting

Let me start by stating that every exam is tough for a person who aspires a single something from the good graces of the examination.
exams have always been the one single thing that students all around the world commonly fear .
A 5th grade or standard child fears his final or annual examinations as much as a 12th standard PCM(Physics-Chemistry-Maths) student in India fears his IIT-JEE (will be described below) examinations..
It’s pretty relative..
Now since that wont be a realistic answer to your question.. I’ll try and provide one based on how tough an average Human would feel the exam is ..
There are plentiful of exams around the world that give nightmares for students .. and I have selected a 10 of those based on various surveys available on the internet ..
10. CCIE : ( Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert)
The first exam on our list is conducted by the American MNC and networking Giant CISCO. It certifies the skills required of network engineers to plan, operate and troubleshoot complex, converged network infrastructures on a wide variety of Cisco equipment.Cisco claims less than 3% of their own engineers and less than 1% of the network engineers worldwide receive this certification.
Yes you have read it right , only a tiny 1% of the persons who take the exam recieve this certification . Several studies imply that an average candidate studies for 18 months and thousands of dollars in preparation for this exam.
If your are doing well and have loads of free time this ones for you .. added to that you need good brains and your share of hardwork .. sounds easy ain’t it .
9. GATE: (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)
GATE is an all India level examination which acts as an entrance test for Indian students pursuing engineering. Out of 8,04,463 people who took the exam, only 1,21,060 got through (15.05% of the total applicants).
This exam is a joint Venture by seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and IISC .
Many private institutes in India and few Institutes around the world (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) take GATE scores into consideration for admissions into Post Graduate Engineering courses .
Talk about recognition ..

Les National Higher Education Entrance Examination commonly appelé GAOKAO , is an academic examination held annually in the country of CHINA .

The name itself runs chills down the spines of many indians students and teachers alike . The prestigious and notorious Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) is an annual engineering college entrance examination in India. It is used as the sole admission test by the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Having personally faced this exam and having seen both the toughness and sheer pressure associated with this exam,I can really tell you that this exam definitely deserves a place on this list.
Every Indian PCM student is forced to take this exam as it resembles a symbol of prestige and valor in the Indian Society.
Out of 12,00,000 (approx) students who take the examinations every year only a 10,000 of them get admissions into these prestigious institutions.
If thats not tough then what is..
Its a booming business for the lakhs of coaching facilities and is one of the highest employing sectors in India though ..
6. UPSC: (Union Public Service Commission)
This is India’s central agency that holds all the important examinations to recruit top notch government officials in the country . It conducts the civil services Exam , Combined Defense Services Exam etc. The exceptionally bright students who have cleared CAT and IITJEE and found it to be quite easy for them, they too find UPSC a tough platform to compete on.Out of approximately 3 lakh students appearing, hardly a thousand of them are actually selected.
Seriously whats with this love story between India and tough examinations ..
The Mensa Society is a global society consisting of people with the highest IQs. Every country has its own Mensa Society, and it’s the oldest and the largest IQ organization in the world. 2. All Souls Prize Fellowship Exam :
As we draw to the near end of the list, the exams keep getting tougher. This fellowship exam held at Oxford University’s All Souls College is one of the toughest exams in the world. An average candidate who gives the Master Sommelier Diploma Exam gives up after the 5th or 6th attempt. The exam is divided into 3 sections: theory, service and blind tasting. Since it is an exam of expert winemakers, students not only have to identify the taste, but also the year and region of the wine. Ever since its inception in 1940, only 200 candidates have cleared this exam, that too in their 3rd or 4th attempt.
It’s for people with the highest level of identification and analytical skills and probably brains in their taste buds… .

I just saw some answers that said the Gaokao (College Entrance Examination in China) is the toughest exam worldwide.
But, maybe you don’t know, I think the National Entrance Test for MA/MS Candidates(NETM) in China is tougher than Gaokao. There are some my personal options.
The NETM split into two parts that is written exam and interview, but Gaokao only have the first. The written exam of NETM included advanced mathematics, English test, communist politics and professional lessons. The second part is an interview. The interviewers will ask you some questions about your professional lessons, your profile, your dream, your family and others. You must pass both of them to pass the NETM.
Tend to go overboard on one or some subjects is not allowed in NETM. The Gaokao only pays attention to total score, you can enter a good university only if your total score surpasses the enrollment mark. But the NETM pays attention to not only total scores but also single lesson score. You can pass the first test when both total score and single lesson score exceeded the enrollment mark.
The enrollment rate of Gaokao is higher than that of NETM. According to the Ministry of Education, this year’s average admission rate of Gaokao is 82.15%, but, that of NETM only is 33%. Approximately 1.7 million students will take the NETM every year, only 550 thousand can pass the it.
My English is poor. I hope that the readers will kindly point out my errors. Thanks in advance.

On a Sarcastic note.
A man being questioned by his mère et ses femme at the same time for his preferences.
Scénario:- A tired man after a full day of hard work at his work reaches home and upon entering he founds his Wife and his Mother waiting for him. His Wife comes closer and tells him about what happened some hours ago. After this, his Mother comes closer and tells the same thing. Now, both are waiting for his opinion on who's right.
I think, this is the toughest exam one ( man ) could ever have, for which he haven't prepared yet. It is like a surprise test.
That’s all folks
Thanks 4 reading
