Toughest? No. It’s scariest.

No, no. I am not making you scared.

Some people will say it’s GATE, UPSC, etc etc.

Mais sont-ils vraiment?

Nursery student finds his exam tough while we think it as an ant. Isn’t it?After giving 12th exams, when you start to prepare for better difficult exams, you realize how easy 12th was. Am I right? Exams can be given with better practice and understanding. Difficulty level of exams depends on one’s strength and knowledge.

For ex: A student topped NEET with 697 but some even failed to pass. Why? Fail students found NEET difficult but the topper at same time found it easy.

So, you got my point now?

But, now if I talk about life. It’s the most difficult exam and is the last exam too. Right? Ya. Ya. I know we learn with time but it still throws a wide range of problems with much high level of difficulty level.

Rather than getting worried about my off topic answer, just make your life better either by studying hard to give “difficult exams” or by living your life with small happiness.

Which is the toughest examination in the world right now?

Just think.

( Off topic. Peace. )

Well, in that case i would say LA VIE i.e. EXAMINATION OF LIFE !

This examination is far more tougher than any other in this thread. All other academic and aptitude testing exams like IIT-JEE, Gaokao, GATE, GRE, IES, CMAT, SAT and CA etc can be treated as it’s part.

It’s the toughest open examination that everyone must go through. This began in our early childhood and we’re facing different terminal examinations of life in succession.

We entered the classroom so called “world” where each and every step we take determines what the next milestone will look like.

  • Naissance (This is entrance examination to exam hall i.e. universe. Only lucky one will get pass this opportunity.)
  • Enfance (Whatever you do in this first term exam will affect your future)
  • Adolescence (Another interesting part of life examination in which you're growing up but don't know if you're grown-up. How you turn as an adult depends on this part of life examination.)
  • Adulte (Even tougher than previous one. In most of the cases, this term will determine your name, fame, health and wealth etc. )
  • Vieillesse (Final term after which the examination won’t bother you. If did well in all previous terms, this term won’t create tougher deal to leave this classroom peacefully)

Some try to cheat. They remain unknown about the fact that they are examinee as well as examiner themselves.

To secure good grades(Identify Life Value),

  • You need to be humble, honest and know yourself. If you fail to do so you won’t understand the meaning of life.
  • You need to be able to understand importance of time and act in time.
  • At the end, what you left behind is all the good deeds that you have presented to this universe.

PS: Sorry for going with sort of ticklish answer you might have unexpected.

Merci pour la lecture.

Edit #1: I’ve added adolescent stage to my answer. Thanks for suggestion Sandeept Dhakal.

  • Adolescence (Another interesting part of life examination in which you're growing up but don't know if you're grown-up. How you turn as an adult depends on this part of life examination.)

15. IES (Indian Engineering Services)

This is a four-stage, combined competitive exam held in India, conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). The four stages comprise of a General Aptitude Test, an Objective Technical paper, Conventional Technical paper, and an Interview. The number of engineers has also seen a huge bump, as a total vacancy of 434 in 2010 has increased to 763 vacancies in 2013. This is one of the most sought after exams to be cleared, as the jobs offered are extremely lucrative.

14. GRE (Graduate Record Exams)

This is a standardised exam held by the ETS (Educational Testing Services) since 1949, and is required to be cleared for admission in many different universities in the US. The exam aims to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study. The ETS significantly overhauled the exam process in 2011, splitting the exam into sections which gauge the performance of applicants in the first round of verbal and math skill, and present the second section accordingly. It retained most of the characteristics of its predecessor. They also changed the scoring scale from 130 to 170. This is one of the major exams for many graduate students across the world.

13. USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination)

The USMLE is a multi-part examination held in the United States. This examination grants a Physician with an M.D. to practice medicine in the country. It is a very prestigious exam, with the average score of entrants being 22.3/42 in the exam conducted in 2014/15. Speaks for itself, doesn’t it?

11. CCIE (Cisco Certified Inter-networking Expert)

The CCIE is a certification offered by Cisco to network engineers based on their ability to plan, operate and troubleshoot complex, converged network infrastructures on a wide variety of Cisco equipment. Though it is a technical certificate, this is one of the toughest exams to pass. Cisco claims less than 3% of their own engineers and less than 1% of the network engineers worldwide receive this certification. The process to obtain this certificate is costly and time consuming. An engineer obtains this certificate upon passing a written qualification test, followed by a hands=on lab exam. All in all, this is an expensive exam which tests the limits of the knowledge of network engineer. Sounds fun,

10. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

The GATE exam is held all over India, which is required to be passed for admission in an ME or M.Tech in various premier colleges in India. It is jointly conducted by seven IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IIS (Indian Institute of Sciences). The examination is extremely tough, a fact which is evident as the PSU (Publis Sector Undertaking) use an applicants GATE score to shortlist the number of entrants. Out of 8,04,463 people who took the exam, only 1,21,060 got through (15.05% of the total applicants). Undoubtedly, this is one of the toughest exams all over the world.

9. GAOKAO or NCEE (National College Entrance Exam) (Thanks Rishabh Srivastava for editing the right statistics)

The NCEE is an annual academic examination held in China. This exam is the sole obstacle between a student and most of the colleges at the undergraduate level. Since 2001, age restrictions to take this exam has been lifted. Most students, however, take the exam during the last year of their high school. The process varies across the different provinces in China. In 2006, a record high of 9.5 million people applied for tertiary education entry in China. Of these, 8.8 million (93%) are scheduled to take the national entrance exam and 27,600 (0.28%) have been exempted from standardized exams (保送) due to exceptional or special talent. Everyone else (700,000 students) will take other standardized entrance exams, such as those designed for adult education students.

8. California Bar Exam

California conducts what is considered the United States’ most difficult bar examination, the California Bar Exam, twice a year (in February and July). The net time of the exam is eighteen hours, spread over three days. The first day has three essay questions in the morning, and a performance test in the afternoon. The second day has applicants answering 100 Multi-state Bar Questions in the morning and afternoon each. The third day follows suit with the first one. This exam has the lowest success rate of any exam held in the US, with a success rate varying between 35-55%. This is enough to grasp the difficulty of this exam.

7. Mensa

The members of this society are the people who score 98th percentile (or higher) on a standardized, supervised IQ or other approved intelligence test, such as the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales. Most IQ tests are designed to have an average score of 100, with a standard deviation of 15. According to these digits, the requirement to be a member of this organisation is a 130 on the tests. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

6. CA-Chartered Accountancy Exam

The CA exam is a three-level exam conducted in India by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India). The first level is the CPT (Common Proficiency Test). CPT covers four basic subjects, ie, Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Laws, Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. The second level is the IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course). The success rate of this exam varies from 8-16%

5. JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)

This is an all-India engineering entrance exam which was conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (2015) in 2015. It is split into two separate exams, which are further divided into two tests. The first level of the exam is the JEE Mains, which encompasses the NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and the IIEST, Shibpur, for its dual degree program. The second tier of the exam is the JEE Advanced. Only the short listed applicants from JEE Mains are allowed to write this exam. The Advanced is required to pass to gain a seat in any one of the IITs and the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. 13.03 lakh people appeared for the examination in 2015, out of which only the top 1.5 lakh were eligible to give the Advanced exam. This is difficult to clear for the sheer number of applicants and the quota system which is in effect.

4. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission)

The fifth entry from this nation, the UPSC is the body responsible for conducting various exams across India for many government jobs. The exams are typically held in a tier fashion; the first tier being an objective style exam, the second, a subjective one. The final round is the interview. 3. CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Exam

A candidate who successfully completes the program and meets other professional requirements is awarded the “CFA charter” and becomes a “CFA charterholder”. That’s cruel, even by Satan’s standard.

2. All Souls Prize Fellowship Exam

The All Souls Prize Fellowship Exam is conducted by the Oxford University in London. Clearing this exam is necessary to gain a Fellowship in the university. This is widely regarded as being extremely tough due to its vague questions, as essay questions with the topic being a single word was given up until 2010. Each year, only two or less people are granted a Fellowship, making this a shoo in for second place.

1. Master Sommelier Diploma Exam

Till now, this is the toughest exam in the world as per several surveys and researches being made. 40 years ago this exam was first taken in UK and since then only 200 candidates have been selected on the basis of this exam. The authorities select candidates on an unknown basis, which renders people with no tricks upon actually giving the exam. On an average every candidate takes 5-6 attempts of the exam before clearing. The exam is divided into 3 sections: theory, service and blind tasting. The students clear the first two rounds, but fall short in the third round. This is in part due to the questions asked in the round, rumoured to include telling the year and variety of a grape by blind tasting

I just saw some answers that said the Gaokao (College Entrance Examination in China) is the toughest exam worldwide.

But, maybe you don’t know, I think the National Entrance Test for MA/MS Candidates(NETM) in China is tougher than Gaokao. There are some my personal options.

The NETM split into two parts that is written exam and interview, but Gaokao only have the first. The written exam of NETM included advanced mathematics, English test, communist politics and professional lessons. The second part is an interview. The interviewers will ask you some questions about your professional lessons, your profile, your dream, your family and others. You must pass both of them to pass the NETM.

Tend to go overboard on one or some subjects is not allowed in NETM. The Gaokao only pays attention to total score, you can enter a good university only if your total score surpasses the enrollment mark. But the NETM pays attention to not only total scores but also single lesson score. You can pass the first test when both total score and single lesson score exceeded the enrollment mark.

The enrollment rate of Gaokao is higher than that of NETM. According to the Ministry of Education, this year’s average admission rate of Gaokao is 82.15%, but, that of NETM only is 33%. Approximately 1.7 million students will take the NETM every year, only 550 thousand can pass the it.

My English is poor. I hope that the readers will kindly point out my errors. Thanks in advance.

BOOK : My answer would be - La recherche de sens de l'homme by Viktor Frankl. Nothing else comes even close.

I am not that guy who reads a lot of Self-help but this book changed me as a person. I learned to embrace everything life threw at me.

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

The title of the book sounds self-indulgent and pretentious. But I would suggest you to read it. If you want to read it then let me tell you that it is very dark and there isn’t even the faintest clue of humour anywhere. The book is divided in two parts.

The first part is the survival story of Victor Frankl in the deathly Nazi camps. This book is a memoir of his horrifying experiences of World War II when the Jews were being killed and tortured. Each day, they were living under the haunting thought of being sent to Gas Chambers, where every last inch of their skin and bones would be turned into ashes.

In the book, he writes about how he lost everything he once held dear and was taken from one concentration camp to another (including Auschwitz and Dachau). He witnessed the cruelty of humans in those camps. He noticed how people suffered and were put to extreme torture by the Nazis and how the Nazis enjoyed doing that. He saw the dark side of humans and what they were capable of. We know what happened in German concentration camps (thanks to thousands of films and books dedicated to World War II) but Frankl’s recollection of the memories of the Holocaust is still able to send chills through your bones. If you want to know how deadly living in those camps was, here’s an excerpt from the book.

A little background first- Frankl writes that one night, one of his inmates was having a nightmare, Frankl wanted to wake him up but he didn’t. He thought:

“No dream, no matter how horrible, could be as bad as the reality of the camp which surrounded us, and to which I was about to recall him"

This is how terrifying the camps were. After spending some time in the camp, Frankl started noticing people around him. Some people gave up to the situation and died (they smoked the last of their cigarettes because they knew they were going to die anyway). Frankl writes that most of those poor souls did not die because of the pain they were going through. They died because the faint hope they were hiding somewhere in the depths of their hearts, had vanished. They didn’t feel like they had a reason to live and succumbed to the situation. However, there were some who took it as a challenge and rose above it. They decided to give their suffering a meaning and emerged victorious in the end. They knew their suffering was not in vain. They believed that they had a reason to live. Some of them hoped that one day they would meet their families and some thought about other things. Frankl noticed everything and the used the same approach to give some comfort to his inmates when they were having a really tough time.

Frankl himself often dreamed about his deceased Wife, he talked to her in his dreams and it was his escape from the reality. It gave his suffering a meaning. He found solace in the memories of his dead wife. He also thought about completing the manuscript he had lost. It gave him a Why to live for. Many a time in the book, he quotes Nietzsche:

"He, who has a Why to live for can bear almost any How”

This is the crux of the book. It is a reminder of how hope is the most powerful weapon humans possess. Frankl writes about the unbeatable human spirit which has the power to endure even the harshest of conditions. He believes that we cannot avoid suffering but we can choose to live with it by giving it a meaning. Giving meaning to suffering can rejuvenate one’s hopes and spirits.

The second part of the book is about Logotherepy, a method Frankl used to cure his patients. I won’t go into the details of logo-therapy. You can read the book to know more about it. I didn’t fully understand it since I am not a Psychology student but I got the meaning anyway.

I would strongly suggest you to read this book if you are feeling down, depressed and lost. It can help you feel better and I am saying this from personal experience. I mean think about it. Are you going through the same pain that those Jews were going through? Is your suffering more painful than those poor souls whose daily food was a bowl of watery soup and hundreds of whips? The answer is NO. So whatever you are going through, remember that you will be fine if you cling onto hope amidst the suffering. The night is darkest before the dawn. So, a bright day shall come soon. Now I’d like to end this post by quoting Frankl.

“But there was no need to be ashamed of tears, for tears bore witness that a man had the greatest of courage, the courage to suffer".

MOVIE: I love movies and there are hundreds of films that I can add here but if I had to chose one, it would be Requiem pour un rêve by Darren Aronofsky.

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

Watching this film needs courage. It is like taking a hammer to the gut, willingly. Everyone must watch this film; it is absolutely necessary. It is a story of addiction and how it can destroy your life. No, not the addiction that was depicted in Trainspotting. It can be any kind of addiction. This movie haunted me for days. It still sends shivers down my spine every time I think about it. It features best performance from any actress I have ever seen in my life. The score can make you shit your pants. Cinematography is amazing and those hip hop montages will haunt me for the rest of my life. That is all I can say. Just watch it.

I'm gonna keep the list short (just 4 movies), but explain why it is important. Before I do, I want the readers to understand I am from a conservative South-Indian family filled with religious dogma, mediocrity in thought process, and barely-surviving. If it isn't for the movies, I can't imagine what my life would've been. I would've been one of those who barely survives around the rules of people around them and I'd have called it a living, with all my ignorance. But now it changed me, it set me free, it gave me a pair of glasses through which the world is much clearer, and filled it with wander, also with misery that needs absolution/action.

  1. V pour Vendetta

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

The dystopian world shown in this movie is almost the world I was living in except the rules aren't forced by a government, but are insinuated by family and society. Only when a certain thought is amplified beyond proportion, would we realize the importance/ill-effects of it. This movie's fictional world sets stage beautifully. It tells us the importance of speaking our mind, significance of what words can do to our minds & in turn our lives, power of an idea (& how that makes you immortal) and at last ill effects of censoring (and how it suppresses the soul of a nation). You won't just be watching a movie, if you get the movie right, it would change your perceptions for life.

2. Cemetery Junction

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

From one of my favourite screen-writers, Ricky Gervais. You might think that this movie is hugely contrasting to my previous movie, but it isn't, it only has a bit of reality attached to it. Life of 3 best friends in an average little town where nothing happens (just like mine). This movie tells you what kind of illusions the society smoothly forces you in to believing and how that is so wrong. I'm afraid I can't reveal anything more (although I am dying to) without ruining the movie for you. But every small town guy/girl needs to watch this movie. It is so energetic, fun, and witty (Gervais duh). Anybody can watch this movie, it is dumbed-down, yet very enlightening.

It is an animated movie which gives us a glimpse of how huge our world is and also how impossibly tiny our world could be, at the same time. It teaches perseverance, even when no one believes you, you should keep doing what you are doing for the reasons only you know.

Not saying that this movie completely changed my life but this movie motivated me towards life.

This movie taught me a better way to see life.

The movie released in 1971, more than 2 decades before I was born. The movie starring 1st superstar of bollywood Rajesh khanna and The Mahanayak Amitabh bacchan.

The movie- ANAND.

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

In this movie the main character Anand (Rajesh khanna) has a disease which can't be cured. He will live only 2 or 3 more months and he knows about it . Inspite of knowing, how he lives his life with full joy(anand) is the theme of the movie.

This movie thought me a way to live the life,

Live it as these are the last days of life, live life at fullest ( not saying to avoid your passion or goals in life, they have their own importance but living life with joy is neccessity if you don't want to repent at the end).

Here are some best dialogs that changed my vision towards life.

And the best is coming now.

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

Hum aane waale gham ko kheench taan kar aaj ki khushi pe le aate hai ... aur us khushi mein zehar ghol dete hai

We stretch and pull the sadness of the future and bring it onto today's happiness ... and we mix poison in that happiness

In this era full with stress , jeolasy, competition, tension, betrayal ,hate etc etc, where we forget how to live , how to love , this movie shows us a way to live , to love ….. and To make this world a better place to live.

Stay happy stay blessed.

Timeless Leadership – 18 Leadership Sutras from The Bhagavad Gita

~ Debashish Chatterjee (IIM C, K and L fame)

Can change your life? May be. It changed mine.

Forever? Je ne sais pas.

But if you ask me: Has it changed my life substantially and principally? I would say a big OUI.

As a lover of Indian mythology (thanks to Shiva Trilogy), I had a natural affinity towards this leadership book. Since the time I remember to have gained some sense (read maturity), I had wanted to read the Bhagavad Gita. I was fascinated by the very idea of God Himself (albeit in his human Avatar) giving a message to a mortal being.

Though the rational part of me never rules out that the Gita could probably only be a compilation of collective wisdom of the Indian subcontinent over the ages, I would still like to believe it is the 'Song of God' itself. The concept of God infuses meaning in all the life's voids left by logic. Its wisdom, nevertheless, is no less than God's message for a normal human being.

I first took up this book while facing a personal crisis. I didn't really believe that another person's "motivational message(s)" could offer much resolution to my deep-rooted problems, other than some common sense superficial solutions that I already know, like the illustration below:

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

Motivational messages for me work somewhat like this: Calm down! ????

I had heard/read earlier that all the world’s wisdom lies in the Bhagavad Gita. And it didn't simply ask you to "calm down", but also at the same time explains the "how" and "why" part of calming down. While reading and comprehending the Gita is a gigantic task, I took this book up.

A statement in the book that made me buy it was:

Which movie or book can change your life forever?

“All wars are first fought in the mind. Therefore it is in the mind that all wars must first be won.”

This statement expresses the essence of the book. It's all about the mind.

The book is spread across 18 Chapters explaining each Sutra (Sanskrit equivalent for 'thread'), in line with the 18 chapters of the original saga it is based on. The most important lessons I learnt and some of my favourite statements from the book are:

  • Your mind is a different entity from you: Krishna would urge Arjuna to look at his own mind and know it. You can't look at something or know something unless you are separate from the phenomenon you are looking at - Thus it can control or be controlled depending what you choose for it.
  • Importance of 'detached engagement': Timeless leaders, even in the middle of an intense activity, remain unattached like a lotus flower that grows in the water and yet is not wet.
  • Embrace Discontinuity: The summer has no conflict with the winter. Only the mind that gets conditioned by the warmth of summer resists winter.
  • A Leader is the master of his mind: A mountaineer once said, "It is not the mountains that we conquer, but ourselves."
  • The mind is a mob: While thinking "What will people think about me?" a person becomes a victim of self-doubt. His fragmented mind functions like the surface waves of a stormy ocean. Such a mind is unable to reflect the depths of the still ocean. It behaves like a mob - full of emotion, devoid of thought.
  • Do not believe in motivation: Because any form of motivation makes you dependent on whatever it is that motivates you.
  • You are merely an instrument of the whole: Gandhi once said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
  • The human condition comes with a boon and a curse of choice: We have the boon of choosing and the curse of the conflicts that we must face when we have many choices.

I can go on and on. I may have left many a lesson. And may be many more lessons are yet to be discovered by me. Neverthele

Which of these three companies is better and why: Lyft, Uber, or SideCar?

Jim Morris

Jim Morris, Professor of Computer Science at CMU in Pittsburgh

Mise à jour il y a 260w

C'est longue. It is excerpted from an example I did for a class. It's not a real competitive analysis.

The taxi business is older than automobiles and has changed little in the past century. Recently, the internet and mobile phones have opened up opportunities for disruptive services that provide on-demand individual transportation. Hundreds of variants on the idea have emerged in the past decade, but a viable model has emerged in the past few years. The general idea is that drivers and riders use mobile phones connected to a web service to arrange rides. The drivers, some professional, are paid in various ways. To varying degrees the companies employ new ideas from social networking, reputation systems, and GPS tracking to provide service. Although these companies appear to be taxi companies to riders, they are actually dispatching services since they serve both riders and drivers.

We consider five specific and three generic competing services to compare.

The Specific Competitors

Five companies,
· Uber,
· Lyft,
· Sidecar,
· Carma, and
· Taxi Magic
are getting traction, mostly in California. They struggle against the incumbents, especially taxis and their more-or-less captured regulators. Recently, the California Public Utilities Commission has authorized these services to operate with the same general rules as taxi companies.

  • Drivers are intensely vetted, more than taxi companies
  • Payments are via registered credit card and called “donations”
  • Average ride $10, a little less than cab, but a SF Yelper says “more.”
  • Lyft gets 20%
  • Image is “community,” people helping people, female, pink mustache, $1M insurance policy on drivers
  • Riders who don’t pay enough get culled.
  • Leverages Facebook
  • Launches after recruiting drivers. It took 3 months to get 150 drivers in San Francisco.
  • Currently in about 12 US cities
  • Has supplied 1M rides as of 8/8/13
  • Pleasant UX on web and phone.
  • No apparent way to request ride from desktop—just phone.
  • Uses Twillo to support SMS and voice, preserving anonymity
  • Has $60M from Andreessen-Horowitz

  • Started with limousine drivers but now includes amateurs and taxis, partly in response to Lyft.
  • The amateur driver application is not threatening, doesn’t ask about cars.
  • De-emphasizes alternatives to limos for various business relationship and image reasons.
  • Riders contact from smartphone app or SMS.
  • Publishes standard rates for four different levels of driver (amateur, limo, suv, taxi).
  • Payments are via registered credit card.
  • Minimum $5 + variable based on miles and speed and city. Rates for limos are 50-70% higher than taxis. The even “surge” rates at high-demand times.
  • On taxis, Uber adds a 20% tip, no alternatives. Limo policy?
  • Cut?
  • Image is limousine, professional
  • Recruits drivers, accepts applications anywhere, but doesn’t launch immediately.
  • In 25 North American cities. Says it’s in 18 counties. Amsterdam, Cape Town, Bangalore, …
  • Has supplied …?… rides.
  • Pleasant UX on web and phone.
  • No apparent way to request ride from desktop—just phone.
  • A methodical rollout strategy.
  • Has six investors including Google Ventures and Goldman Sachs. Total over $400M.

  • Drivers are amateurs. Claim: they are interviewed and trained.
  • Payments are via registered credit card and suggested by the app via experience.
  • Riders who don’t pay enough get culled.
  • Trips are tracked via GPS and “one tap-away” connection to voice service.
  • Average ride $10, a little less than cab
  • Sidecar gets 20%
  • Image is “community,” people helping people, female, $1M insurance policy on drivers
  • Says “not in your area yet” when you request a ride.
  • Currently in about 6 US cities
  • UX shows a few minor flaws.
  • Reported to have more sophisticated scheduling and pricing.
  • No apparent way to request ride from desktop—just phone.
  • Yelper: “drivers are leaving Lyft for Sidecar or Uber so that they don't have to set their schedules in advance.”
  • Appears to have $10M in venture funding

Karma (formerly Avego)
· Strictly amateur drivers, no vetting.
· Low, fixed payments to cover costs, much less than taxis.
· Drivers and riders enter planned itinerary for repeated trips.
· Carma gets 15%
· Image is of commuters carpooling.
· Supports van pools through a partnership with van company.
· No special insurance
· Currently in a few West Coast cities, Washington DC, Dalian (China)
· Had good technology early.
· Appears to be funded mostly by Mapflow, an Irish service company,
· Makes deals with public agencies, van companies
· Sells a bus scheduling system, Futurefleet.

Taxi Magic
· A dispatcher and payment channel for existing taxi cabs and limos.
· Optional payments are via registered credit
· Charges $1.50 for arranging pick-up.
· Allows cancellation, often without fee.
· Image is internet taxi call service.
· Currently in about 39 US cities
· UX OK, not cool.
· Can order from phone or desk.
· Often directs rider to simply call local taxi company.

Generic Competitors

There are many alternative methods of transport, including
· Taxis
· Mass transit
· Driving

There are also dispatching systems that are licensed to transportation companies, but we’ll ignore them.

The General Market Picture

A more extensive marketing study of consumer attitudes about these services would be useful, and the new services are experimenting with many details, e.g. trip specifications, rating systems, pricing policies, etc.

There is a striking difference in pricing. Lyft and Sidcar are generally offering taxi prices while Uber is ten times as expensive and UberX (meant to compete with Lyft & Sidecar) three times for a ten-mile tip.

Based on the (questionable) theory that one is willing to spend a fixed, very small percentage one one’s net worth, the 30% of people in the US who have a net worth of $250,000 or more would pay $50. So maybe Uber’s prices are not as outrageous as they appear. Some real market data would help here.

The large price gap suggests that lower cost services might charge a bit more if the additional revenue could be used to make the quality of service predictably high.

There is an opportunity for new services is to provide significantly better service than incumbents who have not upgraded service in fifty years. The new models have potential advantages:

  • There seems to be no regulatory limit on the number of drivers, and GPS allows many more people to be effective navigators of cities. Currently, several services seem to be understaffed with drivers; and there is intense competition for them.
  • When drivers supply their own cars, there is no capital investment needed by the service and the drivers might be better.
  • Many sophisticated dispatching, traffic prediction, and demand management computer tricks can be tried, copying from the airlines.
  • Detailed feedback on every transaction, on both rider and driver, might produce better service eventually.
  • Current urban culture seems to reduce car ownership.
  • Current employment conditions encourage part-time driving jobs for those who own cars.

However, we are a little dubious about the potential for providing notably better service than today’s taxis when the drivers are still independent contractors. The organizations with really great service—Disney, Zappos, Marriott, etc.—typically have permanent employees, extensive training, and a highly developed culture. An interesting test comparison of this issue can be found in UPS vs. Fedex. UPS’s delivery people are permanent employees belonging to union. Fedex’s are contractors. As a result Fedex’s labor rates are roughly half of UPS’s; but their service is inferior, especially for ground service. None of the companies seem to have plans to greatly exceed the service levels of existing services. Lyft and Sidecar offer taxi-quality service, and Uber offers limousine-quality service. There are some entirely independent drivers who have developed continuing relationships with customers by providing superb, personalized service. There may be an opportunity to become the Zappos of taxi service, but the method is not clear.

I drove for both for an entire year. "Better" is ambiguous, but it's fun to share ideas.

  • I drove in the SF Bay Area, and turned on both apps at the same time after every ride. Uber riders responded nearly 2x as often as Lyft riders. Uber has more passengers and the largest ridership, even in SF. More rides, and less downtime typically resulted in more fares. Uber Wins.
  • Lyft allows tipping, which is absolutely huge. I'd offer snacks to Lyft passengers only. Lyft passengers also consistently sit up front, which makes for a friendlier ride. Fistbumps are the most common greeting, but people also like to shake hands. Since you net 100% of the tips, on a per-trip basis, Lyft generates a better ROI. Lyft Wins.
  • Uber passengers were more professional, but less neurotic, which made for less interesting conversation. A to B, that's it. Lyft Wins.
  • Barfers: Lyft=0, Uber=3. Lyft Wins.
  • Uber Deductible if you get in an accident: $1k. Lyft: $2,500. Uber wins.
  • Support: Both have mostly robotic systems, but I like Uber's system better.
  • Lyft has a better community with its drivers and it's passengers. Uber generally had longer rides, and more airport runs.

I actually wrote an illustrated book about it.

Another driver's perspective - I have signed up as a driver for both and have gone through the training for both services. From my initial impression, Sidecar comes across as a grassroots, entrepreneurial effort, and Lyft comes across as a corporate driven tech company. Lyft seems to have deeper pockets - they give bonuses for referrals, they staff all have the latest macbooks and fancy technology. But they also require you to give you availability and give you shifts that you are required to work. Sidecar drivers can work whenever they want, which is very nice.

I also liked the people at Sidecar better. They were real, people like me. The people at Lyft were nice but...how to put it - they gave off a salesman kind of vibe. The "culture" there seems like it's trickled down from a rich yuppie hipster who thinks he's cool. Personally, I find the pink mustache and fist bump thing annoying and gimmicky. It's like wearing tight jeans and fedora and hanging out on Dolores park so people think you're "alternative". Lyft is a corporate enterprise with a slick marketing strategy, whereas Sidecar feels like a real community movement. Sure they're both making money, but at Lyft I felt like I was being used to make someone else a lot more money, and at Sidecar I feel like a part of a team. You can't fake that.

I will say that, probably due in part to having more money to throw around, Lyft is much more streamlined, more organized from the backend side of things. Sidecar has that sort of community effort feeling, but that comes with a little bit of disorganization. The communication at Sidecar is good, but not as streamlined as Lyft's. I personally find that endearing, and kind of comforting. And there is a real intention on the part of the SideCar staff to listen to and support its drivers.

For me, so far, Sidecar wins. But I hope they can get it together and compete with a company that's obviously very well supported.

This is my experience as a driver in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2014. Likely helpful to people comparing which is best to drive for (as in, where the most money is to be made).

As of right now, regulations are getting into gear and hitting these 3 companies harder, so driving with them is not quite as easy as it used to be. For example, Sidecar now requires a 3rd party inspect your vehicle for safety. For some reason, Lyft and Uber only require their own inspection of your vehicle before you hit the road. However, it's still a great way to make easy money, depending on where you want to work and the state of your car:

In terms of where passengers (i.e., your customers) are:
**Uber is more popular than Lyft
**Lyft is more popular than Sidecar.
**Day drivers make less than night drivers
**City drivers make more than East Bay drivers

In my experience:
Lyft is, as they say "you're friend with a car." Prepare for more peppy, cheerful passengers, and know that you must offer a fist bump, no matter how dorky you think it is.
-There is more action on Lyft than on Sidecar, in my experience (i.e., you'll get more requests).
-You also make more money, as Lyft pays by mile and time.
-For a while, Lyft wasn't taking ANY commissions on your rides (normally I believe it's about 15-20%), and occasionally they still do this as a promo.
-They're driver support is awful. Nobody emails you back for 3-5 days, and it's impossible to get anyone on the phone. They once sent me an empty package. I tried to contact them about it. To this day, I have no idea what was supposed to be in there, besides air.

-Sidecar is your chiller, introverted friend with a car. Prepare for a more mellow crowd, who already know that Sidecar is cheaper than Lyft or Uber (read: you're gonna make a bit less money, but you don't have to put on a huge show, either).
-Sidecar allows both passengers and drivers to see the cost of a ride BEFORE it takes place-- this is their biggest unique selling point. You as a driver can decide if a particular ride at X price is worth your time, or not, before you take it. You can also adjust your "price multiplier," i.e., if you're not getting any rides, you can lower your base pay, in the hopes of attracting more passengers. However, when I did this, I felt I didn't attract more drivers, I just ended up getting shafted on money.
-Sidecar's driver support is quicker than Lyft's, and the Garage is a great support space where drivers give each other advice.
-Sidecar takes about a %20 commission.

Uber is where all the actual taxi drivers went. (The scene is mostly well dressed, succinct, immigrant types with nicer cars.)
-I actually never drove for Uber, as their requirement is to have a car newer than 2005 (and I don't).
-When I can't find a Lyft or Sidecar driver, I always seem to still be able to find an Uber driver. That says a lot.
-Having talked to a few drivers, it seemed like $100/day was what they were making.
-If their customer service is anything like their sales team, they'll take great care of you. They called me about 5 times even after I told them my car's year disqualified me from driving with them. These guys follow up.

Driving at night: Sidecar with maybe one or two Lyft rides thrown in, either in the East Bay or SF, I make about 80 bucks in 3 hours. ***There IS night demand in the East Bay, in my experience.***

Driving during the day between Lyft and Sidecar: There is almost no demand in the East Bay-- about one ride in an hour or two. In SF, there was demand, but traffic is not great. I made 50 bucks in 5 hours.

So, for most money, aim for Uber and Lyft, nights and weekends, in San Francisco.

Hope this helps some people out!

So, I think that in order to answer this, the answer has to be broken down into two items: overall company (culture, people, experience) and technology.

I'll start by noting that I've used both services and I like them a lot. However, Lyft has moved itself onto the homescreen of my iPhone for a number of reasons.

Compagnie: A lot of the next paragraph is likely subjective, but this is just how I'm calling it. I like the Lyft culture better. I've had more friendly drivers, I think the #lyftbump - though some say silly - is a fun and quirky tradition, much like the pink mustaches. It's these quirks that help bring together a stronger sense of culture that ultimately builds into a community.

Those pink mustaches also make the process of identifying your driver as he/she approaches much easier when using Lyft. When using Sidecar, there's those awkward moments when I step toward a card that I think is my ride and then back off after realizing it's not.

Technologie: Some of the other answers make the point creating a profile and having to authenticate with Facebook. That's a very fair point, and I certainly understand why many people prefer to avoid Facebook authentication. However, in my mind, there is one functional step of the software that actually makes a huge difference in my experience. With Lyft, you don't have to state your end destination in the app when you request a ride. With Sidecar, as of the last time I used it, this is not the case - you have to state your end destination.

This is a problem for Sidecar for two reasons. The first is that it means drivers can ignore my request if they don't like my destination request (for example, if I want to go somewhere way out like Dogpatch or Outer Sunset).

The second reasons it hurts my experience is that it eliminates all use cases where I may be traveling with a friend who wants to get dropped off halfway. When I input my destination, the driver is given a route that they are supposed to take. Any deviations or stops not on this route are generally frowned upon and supposedly the drivers will get a call asking them where on earth they're taking the passenger? Anyway, this causes a lot of Sidecar drivers to not want to take any passenger that wants to make multiple stops. Lyft on the other hand, handles this just fine and drivers are happy to fulfill this sort of request.

C'est mes deux cents.

These all are similar in business platform. But each one of them has some unique feature. Comparing these three Ride-Sharing Company, depends on various features like:

  1. Entreprise
  2. Disponibilité
  3. Des dispositifs de sécurité
  4. Technologie

But now a days same features or more than same features are provided by various Ride-Sharing Apps. I would recommend an uber like app for its variety of features. Uber Like Apps | Uber Clone | Taxi Apps Like Uber | Similar to Uber.

Top Algo Trading Platforms

The advent of algorithmic trading has rewritten the rules of traditional broking. With significant volumes on the exchanges now being traded with the help of sophisticated algorithms, it is imperative that traders should be fully aware of the trading platforms that would enable them to implement their stratégies and remain competitive. Since algorithmic trading is sans human intervention and emotions, it makes trading not only systematic but infuses a lot of liquidity into the market. It also is a powerful enabler for the traders to make intelligent decisions across segments like arbitrage, market making, or hedging in a market, whether it is bullish, bearish, or range bound.

Although India was not an early mover into the world of Algo trading, its popularity has been on a rise ever since SEBI allowed the usage of advanced technology to be followed by the equity markets. This has also created a need for software, tools, and platforms, which are being accessed by traders to perform the financial maneuverings. Although the large traders still fit in the bracket of HNIs and institutional investors given the high cost and complexity of trading, retail participation has also seen an uptick with newly built apps and companies letting users create their own algorithms free of charge.

With hundreds of different trading platforms and tools available in the market, each claiming to be better than the other, a person who is testing waters in the field of Algo trading may be spoilt and confused by choice. Therefore, we at QuantInsti, have complied a list of some of the most popular platforms that are being used in the market today (specifically for India equity markets), so as to level the playing field and give a clear picture to the users.

It also has a real-time instrument and script based news provided in partnership with Dow Jones, which can be used judiciously by the traders for their decision making.

For the retail traders, NEST offers a whole range of products like Nest RMS (for risk management), Nest OMS (for order management) and NEST Trader IOB(for sell side brokers who execute large orders).

Redmi Note 5

●Spectacular Display

●Single hand use is easier than i expected since its a gigantic six inch display. But the cover they gave us free is a bit slippery (good quality material though)

●Better battery perfomance

●Engaging UI:
everything you want to do is right there and tweak/clean apps already there

●Great signal reception

●Speaker is loud enough :Makes some rattling noise when i play 128kbps files, but thats normal right?

●Charging time is quite fast

●Doesnt heat up that fast.I can not say its stays cool everytime. on warmer days, heat dissipation is slower, yet comparatively better to other xiaomi phones I've seen

●Multitasking is good with this phone

●Ram management went great after the first update

●Camera isnt that great, but good enough for this price range.Struggles in low light, color reproduction is just OK,
Larger pixel size seems to be doing nothing. picture output is exactly same asnote 4

● Although battery perfomance is great,it consumes little extra when phone is idle

●Some may find the tallness a bit difficult to handle. If you ride a bike and this device is in your pocket it will constantly give you a fear of snapping

●At the first boot there will be only 1.7-1.8 gb ram availabe for use.But after updating to miui 9.5,it wiil improve a lot

●There was some fractin of a secend freezing in some screen before the update, but none seen after that

●The data speed monitor isn't real time, they may fix it later after some ota updates

● I've seen some toast notifications in Chinese

●Only android 7.0 ou of the box,but thats a minor concern, the update will roll out in mid july

●Buy a good hard case.phone is slippery and the glass edges tent to break within an average drop

Overall I can say that it is one of the Best mobiles under Rs. 15,000. Also it isRated 4.7 Star by more than 50 K Users.

Which are the best smartphones for under 15,000 rupees in 2018?

Honor 7X: @ Rs. 12,999

5.9 pouces, RAM 4GB, ROM 64GB, Android 7.0, 16MP + 2MP

If you want a very good looking phone with a great display & performance then you should buy the HONOR 7X. instead of Asus Zenfone 3

I'll mention some pros & cons and if it really suits your requirement then you can go for it.

  • DISPLAY : As I've mentioned in a different question the biggest catch of this device is the 18:9 aspect ratio screen. The phone look future ready .
  • PERFORMANCE: The Honor 7x is powered by Huawei Kirin 659 which is very similar to the snapdragon 625 in terms of power efficiency and performance and you'll experience a lag free performance in day to day use.
  • FRONT CAMERA : The front facing 8 Mega pixel Camera is the best at this price segment.
  • Customizable UI: The Honor 7x comes out of the box with EMUI on the top of Android Nougat so you can customize the UI according to your preference.
  • RAM: It comes with 4 gigs of RAM which is more than enough for daily usage.

Which hosting is good to host WordPress? And how to install WordPress?

Michael Cordova

Michael Cordova, Have been working with WordPress since the beginning.

Mise à jour il y a 94w

Well, after extensive research into exactly what constitutes the best WordPress hosting features, I have selected one company that is very cost effective, provides the leading-edge capabilities that va alors certainement, vraiment, définitivement make a difference to your company and has the best support I have used for many years. Their responsiveness is immediate, and their technical knowledge of the topic of configuring and optimizing fast web servers is better than anyone I have worked with before.

First, the reasons you need to take your website hosting seriously.

Income and Revenue Benefits of Paying for the Best WordPress Hosting

The compelling reasons that this subject is important. Here are several salient points from a KissMetrics (https://blog.kissmetrics.com/loa...) infographic:

· A 1 second delay in page load time (or 3 seconds of waiting) decreases customer satisfaction by about 16%
· 44% of online shoppers will tell their friends about a bad experience online.
· 52% of online shoppers state that quick page loading is important to their site loyalty.
· 40% abandon a website that takes more than 3seconds to load.
· 79% of shoppers who are dissatisfied with website performance are less likely to buy from the same site again.
· A 1 second delay in page response can result in a 7% reduction in conversions.

So, page load time is important, and it goes directly to your bottom line.

Some example dollar figures to consider:
If your site is making you $100,000 per month then you’re losing $84,000/year if your site experiences a 1 second delay. Multiply that by 9 to $756,000 in the case of a very typical WordPress 10 second page load time to 1 second. You see what this can do for your company. Not to mention the improvement in visitor experience and satisfaction. Test your page load time at http://www.webpagetest.org/ to see where your site is currently at and what the possibilities for improvement are.

Next is my criteria for the optimum Linux server along with why each is important. They are all server upgrades, and all but one are software. The other is (obviously) hardware.

Server Features That Make A Huge Difference

The diagram below shows the request/response cycle of the communication between a browser requesting a page and the web server that serves the page content. The gray boxes are server upgrades, each of which optimize their individual part of the process, and each reduces page load times. A short explanation of each of the gray box items is below the diagram.

Which hosting is good to host WordPress? And how to install WordPress?

HTTP / 2 - allows for an unlimited number of requests per connection between a browser and a web server. HTTP/1 is extremely inefficient requiring multiple requests to serve web page content.

nginx - pronounced engine-x, is web-server software. For years Apache was the web server of choice, but the performance improvements in nginx have moved it to the top for hosting websites on Linux servers.

FastCGI - runs PHP as a separate service from the web server software instead of weighing down the web server software allowing for a better efficiency.

PHP 7 - currently the latest version of PHP.

ngx_pagespeed - minimizes css and javascript. This removes unnecessary whitespace which can amount to a great deal in the size of the files, and improves page load times.

Solid State Drive (SSD) - instead of a spinning disk to hold a computers data, an SSD is electronic memory used as a hard drive. It can improve a computers data access speeds by a factor of 2 - 5 times that of a regular hard drive.

PHP-FPM (FastCGI Process Manager) - executes PHP code outside of the web server thus reducing server load. It also allows APC cache to be shared across multiple processes which saves memory (potentially an order of magnitude when combined with nginx) which provides scalability and allows for more processes and traffic.

Proxy inverse - manages secure SSL communications.

APC - Alternative PHP Cache is an opcode caching plugin for PHP that avoids executing PHP scripts by executing pre-compiled code if the same script has already been executed.

Redis or Memcached - both perform persistent object caching. If you have a distributed architecture then Redis is your tool, otherwise Memcached is a simpler device that stores database or REST API queries.

MariaDB or Percona databases - latest versions of the MySQL database most commonly used with WordPress.

Killer Results

So, setting up a Linux server for fast page load times is a significant technical feat. Unless you are a Linux administrator I suggest you have your hosting company take care of it. I Googled managed vps hosting and contacted 12 companies. The managed part is important in that they'd do the server configurations discussed in this section for you. Some have multiple levels of managed hosting. You absolutely need to do your own due diligence!

Your hosting company may provide quick WordPress install software like Softaculous, but if they don’t then you can use the famous 5 minute manual install. Just go to Outil de blog, plate-forme de publication et CMS and click the download button on the home page. You have to create a database at your hosting company, but the WordPress manual installation is fairly painless.

I’m obviously very serious about site performance. I have spent a lot of time on this subject and created the diagram above as an explainer for my customers so they understand the benefits and value of maybe a $150-$300/month expense. The dollars mentioned above that you can capture by having a site that loads in a second or so easily justify the cost and effort of moving to optimized hosting if your site is for business leads or sales, and your company depends on it. Two of my customers currently have load times of 1.6 seconds. That’s snappy. One customer gets about 400 leads a month that are worth $500 each. For a meager $250/month expense they stand to capture $1 Million/year in extra revenue by optimizing like this.

Ma recommandation

If you need highly optimized web hosting and fast page load times for WordPress then I heartily recommend (drum roll please)…

Rose Hébergement

Their responses to my pre-sales inquiries and their costs for the features I required drove me to go with them for my own companies and for my customers. Their expert advice and their knowledge of server configurations and optimizations after I went with them are better than I have ever worked with. The page load times are now at 1.6 seconds! I highly recommend managed hosting from Rose Hosting.

Take it serious. You asked the right question.

It all depends on how large your website is. You can successfully host a small website that doesn't get to many visits, meaning less than 10,000 visits per month on Shared Hosting. People will say you shouldn't but you can. Just monitor your website. You can use a service like Robot uptime to monitor your uptime and Outils Pingdom to gauge your websites performance. Note: I host a real estate website that is focused on local visitors on a Shared Hosting Account with no issues.

Stepping it up

Now if your needs are increasing because your website is for a global audience and receives a lot of traffic, then I recommend you look into a VPS qui est un Virtual Private Server. This will give you greater control on the resources your website uses, the software you can install and the version of the software. VPS' tend to be faster and more secure if configured correctly.

If your website is getting serious, then you can opt for a Serveur Dédié which means you control the whole server. You get the benefit of all the RAM, CPU power, & Storage. You also have the most control with this option on the types of software and versions you can install.

  • Server should be Linux Based
  • Control Panel should be cPanel
  • You should Self Host

Shared Hosting is the cheapest starting at around $4. VPS gets a little bit more pricey typically starting around $30 per month. Dedicated Server is even more costly starting at $60 per month.

Remember, you get what you pay for but should only pay for what you need.

Espérons que cela aide.

Which Internet service providers support net neutrality?

Adam Rothschild

Adam Rothschild, Co-Founder and SVP at Packet, former Voxel/Internap

Répondu il y a 201w

Inside the continental United States, a lot of providers outside the Big Four (Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, AT&T, etc.) support Net Neutrality. Where are you located?

On a regional basis, examples include Sonic.net (see: postings and interviews with CEO Dane Jasper), and 5Nines. Moving on up the food chain, Cablevision (see: Despite Comcast-Netflix deal, settlement-free peering is alive and well - Internap) is a good example of a provider embracing principles of Net Neutrality, likewise RCN, Cox, Google Fiber, and countless other DSL/FTTx/cable providers operating on a regional basis.

As Shane alludes to, there is a big difference between claims of support for NN, and actual actions. For example, Comcast frequently points to its "support" for NN as a part of a 2010 consent decree during the Comcast/NBCU merger, in that they are not discriminating against content on the last mile. Nonetheless, the "edge" of their network is extremely congested, making it difficult to deliver content to their customers at scale without explicitly paying them, or paying an intermediary paying them.

This is a tricky question because what a company claims publicly in a press release isn't always inline with their actual behavior. Comcast for example, claims to fully support Net Neutrality, but in practice they're one of the primary offenders of the principles of Net Neutrality. They've been caught throttling services and traffic (creating fast/slow lanes) several times.

Here's an article from Gizmodo which highlights the contradictions in Comcast's public statement vs the reality: We Fixed Comcast's Bogus, Misleading Net Neutrality Statement

Due to all of this, there's no real way to answer your question based on the public claims of a company. The way to gauge whether an ISP is respectful of Net Neutrality is to just look at their behavior. If they aren't throttling any site/service, then in practice they are an advocate of Net Neutrality. Personally, I don't think any of the major ISPs want to maintain Net Neutrality going forward. Verizon already forced Netflix to sign a deal to pay them more to ensure their streams load quickly for customers. This would be a fast-lane and is in direct conflict with the principles of Net Neutrality. AT&T has openly said they want to create fast-lanes, claiming that it's better for competition and customers. Of course the opposite is true, but they are a corporation and therefore motivated by profit, not being a good Internet citizen. Nothing inherently evil about that, but this is why the public is overwhelmingly speaking up to create new rules that ensure the Internet remains Net Neutral (as it's always been).

I rambled a bit there, so to sum up... There's no accurate way to know what ISPs actually support Net Neutrality. The good news is it's easy to evaluate the ISPs in your area since there are usually only 1 or 2. Just do some poking around and see what's been written about their behavior and make your choice based on that.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

A great many Internet Service Providers, especially the larger ones talk about how great they think Net Neutrality is and how much they support it.

Which Internet service providers support net neutrality?

At least, how much they support Congress making Net Neutrality laws that is.

Which Internet service providers support net neutrality?

AT&T for example have been calling for Congress to take action on Net Neutrality for a while, to quote one of their executives, Bob Quinn, “Congress should act now to provide the clear statutory authority that guarantees an open internet for all consumers.”

Which Internet service providers support net neutrality?

Yeah, bet they would love Congress to make some laws about this, because guess who gives Congress members piles of money to write the laws they want?

Which Internet service providers support net neutrality?

Democrats and Republicans alike received over $42.4 million from telecom companies in the 2014 election alone. They’ve given money to most of the members on the U.S. Senate Committee On Commerce, Science, & Transportation - Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet, and many members of the house have taken money from them as well.

One Million Net Neutrality Comments Vs. $42 Million in ISP Lobbying

How Much Money Big Cable Gave the Politicians Who Oversee the Internet

Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T want Congress to make a net neutrality law because they will write it

There's one thing Republicans and Democrats can agree on: taking money from Comcast

So, which Internet Service Providers support Net Neutrality?

Comcast, AT&T, most of the big ones are all for having Congress make Net Neutrality laws.

Because, in a way, they get to write them.

With which bank shall I open a savings account in India, comparing between PSUs and private banks, and considering minimum balance required, interest paid, additional facilities, etc.?

You can select any bank for opening an account and use the different products offered. Nowadays, all the products and services offered by bank are more or less similar. e.g. Debit card, Online Banking, Mobile banking, App banking etc.

However, as you mentioned that you are just 19 years old, so I think you don’t have any salary/income and you are in some college.

So, I would suggest you to open a bank in Public sector banks. This is the best for you because of following reason.

1. Public sector bank passbook can be used as a address proof.( at many places private bank passbook is not accepted as address proof)

2. To get govt scholarship or other govt scheme benefits, you are required to have an account with public sector bank

3. They have very low minimum balance requirement(e.g. IDBI bank Min Bal- 2500(Rural) and 5000(urban).

4. Select the branch near you locality/area where there is not much rush/crowd. You can choose Union Bank, IDBI, Canara Bank, Bank of Maharashtra,Bank of Baroda,Central Bank of India,Punjab National Bank etc.

After some period of time you can open private bank account or salary account when you start a job/ a business.

You can check the new bank account considering the following factors:

# Charges:

The requirement for minimum average balance which will effectively lower the interest rate. If you are not maintaining that balance, you have to pay fine. Migrating or opening a new bank account means a new set of charges and you have to keep track of it. Apart from non-maintaining of minimum average balance, there are various charges levied by banks such as debit card charges, cheque book charges, transaction charges etc.

# Income Tax:

The interest on savings bank account up to Rs 10,000 is tax-free under section 80 TTA of income tax. It is a very good advantage for the persons who are in the 30% tax bracket.

# Additional Benefit:

Many banks are offering various additional benefits with the savings account. You assess those offers how it can add value to your savings account return. Some banks are giving you a handful of feature for their savings account. The example of features are as follows.

  • Free any bank any network ATM transaction
  • Unlimited Fund Transfer
  • Free debit card for life
  • No charges for banking transactions

Considering all the above factors, opening a Kotak Mahindra Savings bank Account could be beneficial for you which offers 6% interest rate, free virtual debit card, no minimum balance and free virtual debit card.

Banking as a business has evolved a lot in last three decades with so many options left for a customer to select. From the Era of class banking during pre nationalisation to the era of Mass banking (Jan Dhan Yojna, payment bank etc… ). Banking is basically a business of accepting deposits for the purpose of lending but today you can see the concept of umbrella banking were in you see so many customized banking products, insurance policies and investment solutions. Savings account is most generalized product in banking world and is in the Last phase of product life cycle. Now coming to the question , if someone is in search of best Indian bank to open a savings account, few points should be kept in mind -

a) What type of customer you are?

First and foremost thing is “what is your type “, Bank cater the need of customers based on their financial status, knowledge, need, behaviour and investment objectives. So, if you have a huge amount of money to keep in your savings account, each bank will offer you a red carpet welcome and service will be beyond expectation.

For middle class having their hard earned money, safety of their funds is the most important thing in their mind (remember run on the bank) and thus they prefer to bank with a government bank mostly.

Some customers due to time constraints open account in private banks giving good service and they even give door to door service to HNI customers.

Private banks will do a lots of cross selling and they will Forcefully sell you various underrated insurance and mutual fund products. So, on one side you are getting good service in private banks in comparison to their public sector peers but you may be a victim of cross selling and unnecessary charges.

Private banks charge at exorbitant rates for non maintenance of minimum balance, I have so many of my friends complaining about this and non interest income is a big component in the profit account of private banks. So, if you don't pay attention to the very important terms and conditions which they always expect you to skip, you may loose your hard earned money.

So, basically they are your friends in your good times but will harass and cheat you in your difficult times.

If you are a villager, farmer, illiterate, handicapped, from weaker sections of the society, forget about private banks. Private banks show least interest in social banking.

Public sector banks do not offer that much, but they are ethical and do not discriminate. Your money is safe with inherent government guarantee. There is cross selling but it's negligible as compared to private banks. Safety of your money is most important and in that department public sector banks are more reliable.

So, if you are an affluent customer you can open your savings account in any bank and you are going to get good service with few exceptions. But if you are middle class or bellow middle class, don't put your hard earned money at risk and think twice while banking with private banks.
