3.Now ajouter des détails bancaires.

6.Entrez votre code PIN UPI (MPIN).

7.Done !!

Avantages :

First of all I would start off with Microsoft

Microsoft-

Microsoft has now been in the industry for more than 40 years. With such a long presence, much has been written about Microsoft, the windows history timeline and even about the captain of the ship Bill Gates himself. For those who are still curious to know more, we have managed to dug up some of the fun facts about Microsoft.

Interesting Facts About Microsoft:-

Following are 10 interesting facts about Microsoft we bet you didn’t know about:

1. The Name was “Micro-Soft”

The first ever mention of the word “Microsoft” was mentioned in a letter written by Bill Gates to his fellow co-founder Paul Allen. Gates intentionally wrote the word Micro-soft considering a portmanteau of “microcomputer” and “software”.

Micro-Soft Historical Logo

Mislaying its hyphen, Microsoft got its identity on November 1976 when it was officially registered at New Mexico where Bill Gates and Paul Allen were working with their first customer MITS. Microsoft relocated its HQ to Redmond, Washington in 1986.

Microsoft has made changes in the logo several times. The current “pac-man” logo was introduced in 1995. Until then the “blibbet” logo (shown above) was being used by Microsoft. The stylized “o” in the logo was taken from the name of a burger served in the Microsoft company cafeteria.

2. Brian Eno is the Man Behind the Famous Microsoft ‘Sound’

The six-second start up sound of Windows 95 was made from the musical mind of Brian Eno. The pioneering musician said that he found making the short piece of music funny and amazing just like making a tiny little jewel. Eno has also composed the music for the computer game Spore.

3. The Favorite Food in Microsoft Campus is Pizza

Microsoft Cafeteria Worldwide

Not like Google’s TGIF(Thank God It’s Friday) where company honchos meet directly with the employees over a drink, Microsoft too offers free beverages. More than 23 million beverages are downed on the corporate office each year.

Coming to the food, Microsoft has 35 cafeterias( you can spot one above) serving over 35,000 people each day and pizza charts the top. Free candies are also made available for Microsoft staffers.

4. Product Codenames

Microsoft likes to work on its product under codenames. Eventually, Bill Gates was willing to launch Windows under the name “Interface Manager” but then an employee persuade him from doing so. Product names a while seem to have Midwest geographic bent, some of the past codename includes “Lone Star”, “Vienna” and “Longhorn”.

5. An Average Microsoft Employee is Called “Softie”

Microsoft’s Software employees view themselves as ‘softies’. Rumors are that an average softie gets a starting average salary up to $106,000. Microsoft currently employs 88,180 employees working across 32,404,796 square feet of Microsoft’s premises. The male to female ratio among Microsoft is 76-24%.

6. Microsoft Loves Candies!

All companies, big or small have a small in-house tradition. Microsoft is too not an exception. This means Bill gates have turned up with 33 pounds of M&M till 27th June 2008 (If he observed the tradition).

7. Microsoft Asks Strange Interview Questions

Microsoft has a stature of asking strange questions in the job interviews. One of the most off-beat question is Why a Manhole Cover is round? It’s certainly true that Microsoft employees are unusual and have a forward thinking interview process. Instead of asking questions like where do you see yourself in next 5 years? you can be bombarded with questions that will force you to think logically. Questions like Design a coffee maker that will be used by astronauts may be asked or you may be likely to solve a puzzle. The main intention behind this process is to find candidates that can think creatively. Rumor says that Google also have imitated this style.

Edit 2- I am seeing that everyone is hungry for more facts

Ever since the company's first operating system, Microsoft has worked on its projects under codenames, of which Wikipedia has a long list. Apparently Gates was ready to launch Windows under the name "Interface Manager" before he was persuaded to change it by an employee.

Past codenames include "Longhorn," "Lone Star," and "Vienna." While you might be tempted to add "Mojave," to that list, it's actually part of a Microsoft ad campaign. The "Mojave Experiment" was a marketing exercise that battled Vista's poor PR by presenting the software to new users as a fresh product.

Comment postuler?
Interested students can apply through the following methods:
1. Online application: Internships – Amazon recruitment
Applying online through Amazon’s university recruitment page.

2. Through a referral:
Having a referral is the easiest way to get invited for an interview at Amazon. If you know someone who works at Amazon, ask them to provide you a referral. You can even find some employees through LinkedIn or Facebook for this.

3. Mailing the HR executive:
Find a previous/current Amazon employee/intern and ask her to provide you the e-mail address of the HR. Mail the HR directly, clearly stating your purpose, with a strong cover letter and resume.

4. Campus Recruitment:
Amazon visits a few selected colleges for recruiting interns.

What after applying?
Undergraduate students are asked either to upload their resume while applying online or to send in their resumes to the HR they communicated with. After the initial screening based on their resumes, students are called for a telephonic interview or an online screening test.
screening test generally comprises of 20 MCQs from Computer Science fundamentals (OS, DS, DBMS, and Networks etc.) and 2 coding questions like:
• Given a linked list, write a function to reverse every k nodes (where k is an input to the question)
• Write a function that returns true if a given undirected chart is a tree, and false otherwise.
(example here)

This is followed by a telephonic interview which consists of both technical and general questions. Fewsample technical questions sont:
• Given a binary tree, print its boundary traversal.
• What is meant by virtual memory?
• There are billions of URLs given. Come up with an efficient data structure that returns the IP addresses of these URLs.
• Given a string, display the words in reverse order.

Les HR questions asked are pretty standard like:
• Tell me about yourself.
• What are your career goals and how will this internship fit into that?
• What problems you faced during your past projects and how did you overcome them?

After this, the students are called for a face-to-face onsite interview at one of the Amazon India offices. These interviews are mostly broken into 2 parts where a panel of three interviewers analyze your technical and behavioral skills. Some sample questions sont:
• Which data structure will you use to keep records of the stock market – If you have to maintain the stock values of various companies during various periods and return minimum stock value of a particular company over a given period of time?
• Write a function to check whether a binary tree is a subtree of another binary tree.
• You have to design a media player: What data structure will you use to store songs and play them in a random order without any repeats.

Once the internship starts, interns are assigned a mentor. The first week is generally comprised of orientation programs, boot camps etc., and every intern is assigned to a specific team. The intern projects at Amazon are normally of high quality and significance, and interns are encouraged to write/tweak important codes. Amazon generally offers a stipend of 30K/ month along with one week of accommodation. Other perks include Sodexo coupons, 24/7 cab facility, and team outings.

Word of advice from ex-interns:
Get comfortable: During interviews, be prepared to code on different mediums (on paper, shared text editor, whiteboard etc.) for different questions and get comfortable talking about coding over the phone.

Unique work culture: All the interns are treated like the employees of the company. Interns are encouraged to come up with new ideas in the weekly brainstorming sessions. You usually call your managers by their first names, and you get flexible work hours with the option to work from home.

Getting placed: Generally, the internships at Amazon India result in three different outcomes:
1. Pre-Placement Interview (PPI) – If you have completed your project on time and with a decent performance, you’ll get an opportunity to take a PPI which will consist of 1 or 2 technical rounds.
2. Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) – If your manager is impressed with your work, you may directly get the offer letter without any interviews.
3. Rejection – If your manager believes that you are not competent enough to match Amazon standards, you are directly rejected. This is a very rare case; mostly interns at least get the chance of taking a PPI.

A couple of pro-tips:
• For développeur de logiciels profile, you need to be proficient in Java as most of the work at Amazon is done in Java.
• For the personal interviews, go in casuals. Being suited up won’t impress anyone.
• Practice a lot of coding quizzes. Interviewers want to check whether you can apply your coding skills in the real world scenarios.
Ressources: The best way to prepare for the interviews is by practicing different types of coding questions which were actually asked in the Amazon interviews in the past. You can get all the questions asked over the years ici . For practicing specific technical questions, use this Q&A site.

Merci pour le A2A.

I’ve never really believed in applying through firms’ official websites. I seriously doubt the chances.

I think finding a referral makes the most sense. If you do not know anyone personally, try to find people who do. Ask your teachers, post on forums, stalk people on forums (..I think it safe to mention that I’m joking..) and ask around. Ask on websites like Quora, Reddit, etc. Facebook groups with students looking for internship opportunities might be helpful.

Also, you might want to check out Stages en Inde | Internshala or Summer Internship | Winter Internship | Internship Jobs in India 2016 - Letsintern.

Additionally, make use of the Placement & training cell in your college. Ask them to find out if they would be willing to share contacts. Sometimes they would not be able to get the company to the college, but they might be having the relevant contacts. Wouldn’t hurt to try.

Establishing a network and building contacts are getting extremely important. Ensure you learn where to ask to get what you want.

Bonne chance!

Answering only for Software development internships and that too in India.

Amazon visits close to hundred colleges for placements. It also interviews for internships in some of these. If you are fortunate to be in one of these, take your chance. Prepare well.

If you are not in one of these colleges and Amazon has not been able to achieve its target, it conducts internship drives in batches in January February timeframe. Try in that.

Lastly try to get referred by someone already in Amazon.

There are two ways to apply for internship in Amazon India.

1) You may apply for internship through Amazon Jobs website. Recruitment team would check the resumes and call the candidate for interview only if they find that the resume is matching their requirement.

2) Someone(who knows a team that is in need of interns) from Amazon should refer you for internship. (People/students usually get internship in this way). Once you are referred, you would be called for an interview.

Interview process may vary depending on the team you are attending the interview for.

Merci.

  9. Beauté stupéfiante - Il faut se méfier! Cela m'a donné une crise cardiaque. Je vous préviens.

Répondu il y a 63w

Personally, a good dvd ripper is supposed to have following features and you can choose the most suitable one according to your own need:

1.First and foremost, the ability to break the encryption. That is the biggest difference between some free DVD ripper and others, because most commercial DVD has the encryption and the DVD ripper needs to recognize which is the main subtitle to convert.

2.the various output profile. That means your ripper must have the ability to convert DVD to various output file format, such as MP4,AVI,MOV,M4V. As we all know, different file format is required on different devices. For example, iPhone/iPad only support the mp4 in video format.

3. speed and quality. The process of converting should not last too long to waste your time and it cannot be better if the quality of videos or audios and the download speed can be adjusted.

4.easy and safe. It would be better if the interface is easy to set and operate, especially for those common users. And it would bring no worry in computer virus.

Above all, you can choose one according to DVD ripper review:

2017 Free DVD Ripper Software - Help You Rip Copy Protected DVDs with Ease

By the way, if you are searching for a DVD backup, Winx DVD Ripper Platinum might be the best choice, because it has the particular 1:1 DVD backup function, which you can convert DVD to ios images or folders with no data loss and choose the main title copy or full title in your own way.

Réponse d'origine: Free DVD ripper that rips the highest audio quality?

2016 Best DVD ripper #1: Handbrake

OS Platform: Windows & Mac & Linux

Key features: Handbrake is our favorite video encoder for a reason: it’s simple, easy to use, easy to install, and offers a wealth of tweaking options to get the best possible file as a result. If you’re daunted by them, you don’t even have to use them—the app will compensate for you and pick some settings it thinks you’ll like based on your destination device. So many of you like Handbrake that many of you use it in conjunction with another app (like VLC, which makes ripping easy)—you’ll let another app do the rip and crack the DRM on your discs, and then process the file through Handbrake for encoding.

Pros: The app is fast, can make the most of multi-core processors to speed up the process, and is completely open source. Best of all, it’s completely free.

Cons: Only outputs MP4, MKV formats. Only can rip unencrypted DVD. Handbrake isn't updated often. Its presets are often out of date.

Editor’s note: Since it is free, I think I will choose it first if I need a DVD Ripper. After all, MP4 is enough for nearly all devices and media players.

2016 Best DVD ripper #2: Pavtube ByteCopy

OS Platform: Windows & Mac

Key features: Pavtube ByteCopy is your best DVD copying and backing up tool which can rip and backup DVD in any copy protection like Sony, Disney and region codes. It can convert DVD to any other formats like H.265, M3U8, MP4, MOV , M4V, AVI, WMV, MPG, MKV, etc or MP4/MOV with multi-track audios for playback on iOS/Android/Windows Tablets/Phones, HD Media Players (WDTV), editing software (Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, etc.), and more.

And other than that, Pavtube ByteCopy is also able to encode DVDs to MKV container format with preserving chapter markers, multiple audio tracks and subtitles and make it possible for you to easily select your needed tracks, subtitles when watching DVD movies with your media players. creating 3D video is supported by ByteCopy. What’s more, it also can rip and copy Blu-ray.

Pros: A top Multi-track Blu-ray/DVD Converter to all of you with excellent ability to pick up multi-track for playing BD/DVD movies on Media Players and portable device. It also can extract subtitle/audio from Blu-ray/DVD.

Cons: It is a paid one. If you want to use its free trial version, you have to bear the watermark in the middle of the video.

Editor’s note: If I need a more powerful DVD Ripper, Pavtube ByteCopy is no doubt the best choice. But if I only need to rip DVD to MP4 and my DVD has no encryption, I will definitely select Handbrake.

2016 Best DVD ripper #3: MakeMKV

OS Platform: Windows & Mac & Linux

Key features: We’ve praised MakeMKV before for its ability to quickly and easily rip DVDs to high quality MKV files with a single click. The app has been in beta for a long time (years, in fact), which is just as well, since the developers promise to start charging for Blu-ray ripping once the app leaves beta. The app’s strong suits are that it’s fast, super easy, and cross-platform.

Pros: The app preserves all of the source disc’s information, including tracks, chapters, HD audio, menus, and so on. The app is completely free.

Cons: Only MKV output.

Editor’s note: I found little software will keep multiple audio and subtitle tracks when ripping BD/DVD discs. But MakeMKV and Pavtube ByteCopy must be in the list.

There are too many DVD riping tools in the market. You can read the Comparison of Popular DVD Rippers in the Market to decide which you should choose.

General speaking, there is no the best DVD ripping tool, there is just the one suitable.

You can follow the tips below for searching a DVD ripping tool suitable for you:

1, Hack DVD copy protection ability. What we need is DVD ripper software with excellent DVD copy protection hacking feature. It should has abilityh to backup any encrypted DVDs including older and recent ones and remove copy protection from DVD with Disney X-project DRM, Analog Protection, CSS, Sony ArccOS, CSS, UOPs and unlock region code.

2, facile à utiliser. If one software is with quality features, it may be complicated to control. But what we need is simple steps. There are just three main steps to charge the whole ripping process: Load DVD > Set Profile > Get Started.

3, Totally safe. No one would like to take any risks to run an unsafe software. The recommended DVD ripper ought to be totally clean. No virus, no adware, no spyware, and no malware.

4, Speed and quality. Once a DVD ripper program makes a balance among faster ripping conversion speed, amazing output video audio quality and smaller file size, it catches my heart in its hands.

Frein à main is open source software that provides an excellent quality of transcoded video. The program is also small in size albeit it is packed with great features that further improve synchronization and amazing video output quality.

MakeMKV seems to be available as freeware, but its documentation states it is a beta version that will stop functioning after 60 days. it is your one-click solution to convert video and DVD that you own into free and patents-unencumbered MKV format that can be played everywhere.

Réponse d'origine: Free DVD ripper that rips the highest audio quality?

There is no reason your audio quality should not be the exact same quality as on the DVD itself.

If you are converting your DVDs to crappier formats which will not be full-quality, the settings and encoding you employ will determine the output. Many programs will offer the same potential settings (in different interfaces or layouts or default combinations), so it is sometimes about how you regulate your options more than which program you use.

The standard free tools for dealing with lossless DVD backup and creation are:

DVD Decrypter: DVD Decrypter
DVD Shrink: FREE Backup Solution for your DVD movies!
ImgBurn: Le site officiel d'ImgBurn

Consult with audiovisual tech forums and reputable how-to's in order to properly install, manage settings, and successfully put these powerful programs to use. You can still deal with quality-reducing and content-selective DVD backups using these programs, but I do not recommend skimping on something as important as media fidelity if you are already serious enough to be putting in the effort to rip or burn in the first place.

Some are no longer active projects, meaning they are not updated and cannot always handle the newest anti-consumer technologies, but there are other free and paid alternatives that can help you around the unethical hurdles corporations try to erect between you and your rightful content.

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

I am really perplexed. Why does everyone keep saying that America is not an empire? Is it something public schools teach?

Well I have to tell you something. Public schools are there so you learn how to get along and obey authority. The history classes are mostly propaganda. They are taught from certain angle and they are changed every so often to update the next generation in what is politically correct. Don’t except the mainstream media to tell you what is going on.

What do you call 800 military installations? Have read about the coups, assassinations and invasions carried out in the name of the CIA and the military since WW2? We have special forces involved in a countless number of conflicts around the world.

There is a reason why the US is the world reserve currency and most of the international trade is based in USD. The reason is because we have bombed or overthrown anyone who has tried to set up there own system.

China, Iran, and Russia (to name the big ones) are all trying to shift away from The US based economic hegemony and that is one main reason why they are not friends to our ruling elite (or else the ones that make the foreign policy). The average person would probably get along just fine with these people.

There are two political systems competing for primacy. Authoritarianism and Democracy. Democracy over the past decade has been on the slide based on a number of metrics. Chinese authoritarianism in particular could prove to be more efficient than democracy.

One scenario is that globalism could continue to such a degree that western civilization starts to merge with authoritarian countries and there is a big crackdown in civil liberties as Orwellian surveillance technology comes out in the open. The police/military/Intel agencies start to share information to a greater degree.

Automation continues and the western governments are forced to expand the safety net to include UBI as mega international corporations dismantle the rest of democracy.

In the US’s waning power, the US military strikes out and starts a world war with the emerging China-centric countries. Millions die. Western civilization is defeated and becomes a vassal and colony of the emerging countries. Human liberty dies and hi-tech neo-feudalism takes over with the vast majority of the world population is pushed into poverty and starvation as the environment degrades due to climate change.

Have a nice day!

(Seriously, I hope this doesn’t happen…)

Edit: The question asked WHEN the western empire will end so in that spirit I will add some dates.

China and the US could likely get into a war before 2030. China will reach military spending parity with the US around 2025. That will be an opportune time to strike before China gets too powerful.

Around that time the Orwellian police state will pop up and a war will act as an accelerant as war is the health of the state and the time to exert maximum change on society.

2040 could be the time that a basic income is put into place as AI and automation reach a critical mass.

2050 to 2150 will be a time of great change as predicted by climate models.

There’s a theory that empires last for eight generations - that’s about 200 years. If that’s true, the U.S. is late in the seventh generation if we take the Mexican-American war to be the first phase of the “American Empire”. There are striking parallels between the decline and fall of the Roman Empire and the decline of the United States.

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

But first you have to establish if the U.S. is an empire in any sense of the word. It doesn’t directly rule a lot of countries, but it has a huge number of costly military bases, 800 to 1,200 (depending on how you count them), flung around the globe. These vast military commitments are the financial and administrative equivalent of an empire. And, of course, the U.S. likes to try its hand at taking over countries from time to time - such as Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq - in the name of freedom, but it’s just not that good at it.

Empires in decline and collapse have certain features that uncannily resemble the current state of affairs in the U.S. But first, read carefully the famous quotation that sums it up:

… Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: pain et cirques

Roman satirist Juvenal (circa A.D. 100).

So responsibility for failure lies firmly with the people abdicating their agency in a democracy in favor of the following:

A completely disconnected and dysfunctional ruling class

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

The president doesn’t really control the plutocrats, but a great president can stand up against them. Unfortunately, we probably need to go back to the 1960s or possibly even to FDR (who presided over the high point of American hegemony in 1945) to find one.

Shameless greed

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

It speaks for itself. Individuals who have many times more wealth than they or their families could possibly consume for generations wanting even more - and figuratively snatching it out of the hands and health of the poor.

An abased currency based on fiat not value

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

The Federal Reserve says the U.S. doesn’t have enough inflation. However, a $100 in 1980 is worth about $300 in today’s money.

“Gladiatorial” entertainment

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

A preoccupation with spectacular, sometimes violent entertainments that distract the masses.

An obsession with celebrity

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

An obsession with sex

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

An obsession with food and celebrity chefs*

Every empire has met its end. When do you think the 'Western Empire' (American Empire) will end?

*Really, they had them in Rome too.

Despite recent politics, the American Empire most likely will not end soon. One reason is economics — the obvious successor to America is China, but China’s economy would suffer immensely if the USA were to suddenly crumble, and vice versa. Another reason is the comparative stability of America. While one could point to racial violence and tensions mounting between black and white, it is nowhere near the level of instability of the other continent-spanning empires — Russia has the Chechens, China has the Tibetan Plateau, and both have rather poor average citizens.

Furthermore, America is culturally cohesive — the Deep South and possibly Hawaii are the only places you’ll meet people serious about leaving the Union, and they’re in the minority even in their home states. Tellingly, we think of the US as “is”, rather than “are”, which is a postbellum development. In short, the USA lacks enough internal conflict to implode into civil war.

But when America does lose its supremacy, it most likely will not see a massive devolution of territories that the British Empire or Soviet Union saw. Most likely, the torch will quietly pass to the next superpower, which will then begin its own golden age, continuing the cycle of empires.

I think using the word empire is a little archaic but I see what you’re trying to ask. Personally, I don’t think that the “empire” is ever going to end.

This is probably not a popular opinion— most note that all other empires have collapsed eventually. Some would argue that America is already on the downturn, and either this event or that event is the turning point. (I’ve seen Kennedy’s assassination and the Vietnam War as peaks, for example).

However, we live in a new world where massive globalization runs rampant. The success of any one country is usually linked to another’s. And for the US that idea holds doubly true. America’s economy slowing down would invariably hurt any other economy on the planet, and no government of those countries wants to let their nations be hurt— even at the expense of the big bad US.

Even if China, with its rapidly growing economy, has no vested interest in slowing down America’s economy nor seriously challenging its military around the globe.

America’s government is a constitutional republic, and it has the good fortune of having a very well-intentioned set of founding fathers. The constitution enshrines the ability of the people to always protect itself from a tyrannical government, even if that process can get mired in bureaucracy.

Due to this flexible nature of government, the people remain relatively happy with their freedoms while also maintaining the ability to prevent a tyrant from ever getting too much power. (Sure, people may argue that Trump is a very authoritarian president, but he is still only limited to 8 years max, and many of his more authoritarian policies are constantly challenged by other government entities. In fact, he is the perfect example to show how the system curtails a tyrant’s powers).

Finally, in addition to the lack of countries that want to see the American economy flounder and the lack of countries/coalitions that would challenge its military, there’s the issue of pervasive American culture. No amount of proactive or direct action from countries can eliminate American cultural influence in their countries without a serious backlash from their own citizens.

American singers and songs can often be found at the top of other countries’ charts. American fashion brands are some of the world’s most popular. American movies, TV shows, and video games almost single-handedly dominate the market by numbers. (With exceptions, of course. I’m just trying to note their prevalence.)

Besides the world’s lack of interest in American Football, American culture is a pervasive element in almost all nations.

I personally feel like the breadth of American cultural involvement is quite large, and this point could be more thoroughly explained in a much longer post, but I hope that the small explanation I gave is enough to suffice to prove the point.

Based on this evidence, most notably the impact of globalization but not discounting the strength of America’s military, I don’t think this “Western Empire” will ever end.

In its own good time; Aeneas was given mandate by the father of the gods to make Rome into the imperium sine fine (‘empire without end’), and the West has so far shown every sign of living up to that promise. Who today is far-sighted enough to discern whether and in what future the Western wind is to be snuffed out, or transfigured into something so different as to be unrecognisable?

I find such questions deeply unsettling. The specter of the West looms large in the Zeitgeist of the world - disproportionately larger than any American fleet could hope to warrant. This is unhealthy, to say the least - even if I were to venture for a historical prediction, who am I helping? If America didn’t exist, the people of the world would have to invent her. Maybe they already have.

Personally, I see more of the image of the world in Tolkien’s Akallabêth than in any doomsayer’s curse. As is often the case, men are wiser in play than in seriousness. Courtesy of the Orchard of Sa'adi:

Qizil Arslan possessed a fort, which raised its head to the height of Alwand. Safe from all were those within its walls, for its roads were a labyrinth, like the curls of a bride. From a learned traveler Arslan once inquired: "Didst thou ever, in thy wanderings, see a fort as strong as this?"
"Splendid it is," was the traveler's reply, "but methinks not it confers much strength. Before thee, did not other kings possess it for a while, then pass away? After thee, will not other kings assume control, and eat the fruits of the tree of thy hope?"

In the estimation of the wise, the world is a false gem that passes each moment from one hand to another.

Perhaps you need to acquaint yourselves with the late Professor Harold Rood from Claremont College. A good starting point is a book by his former students: You Run The Show Or The Show Runs You.

The maps proffered in this series of post tell me a different message, one from Professor Rood. Namely, we are an island nation surrounded by the Eurasian landmass.

We cannot afford, therefore, to fight a war on our home turf. We have the longest coastline on earth. Sitting seemingly secure behind our oceans gives our enemies the luxury of picking the place and time of battle (which is why the ‘law enforcement’ model of foreign policy is so foolish). Nor, can we have the extingencies of war fighting in close proximity to the Bill of Rights; there needs to be a large physical separation such as an ocean.

Therefore, our military has developed polities and capabilities to fight our wars on our enemies’ home turf. We have alliances specifically for forward deployment to wage war overseas.
