I don’t know. I did not work many cases that involved Bitcoin. But in general all the monetary assets seized by the FBI are maintained in an asset forfeiture fund. The funds are secure while the disposition of the case is decided. Then if the case involves victims the funds are returned and equitably split among the victims. Bitcoin is similar to liquidating investments and shares, and the value may differ from day to day.
